OUR STORY
Portella is a traditional Mallorcan house with Moorish and Venetian Renaissance influences, quietly located in the historic centre of Palma, beside the iconic Arab Baths. Built in the 17th century, the house has been home to aristocrats, merchants and artists, including the Mallorcan painter Joaquín Torrents Lladó.
Restored with care by the Paris-based studio Festen Architecture, Portella is not a traditional hotel but a lived-in house—intimate, calm and deeply connected to its surroundings. A peaceful retreat in the heart of the city, designed for those who value authenticity, privacy and understated luxury.
Local craftsmanship defines the house. Furniture, materials and fabrics have been carefully hand-selected, with bespoke lighting created in collaboration with the Gordiola family—Mallorca’s historic glassmakers—resulting in hand-blown pieces made exclusively for Portella.
Today, Portella is home to 13 apartments and suites, an open café-kitchen, rooftop terrace, gym, hammam and treatment room. Available for individual stays or full private buyouts, it remains, above all, a private Palma home—quietly shared.
THE COURTYARD
The house is centred around a charming central courtyard—an inviting place to relax or enjoy a drink, surrounded by lush greenery and accompanied by the gentle murmur of the fountain. Intimate corners invite quiet reflection, while cosy spaces encourage gathering and conversation. Our traditional Mallorcan patio sets the rhythm of the house, filling the surrounding spaces with light, calm and a sense of effortless ease.
THE ROOFTOP TERRACE
The private rooftop offers unique views over the neighborhood, the Arab Baths, the Cathedral, and the rooftops of the Old Town. Settle into one of our sun loungers, cool off under the fresh-water shower, or enjoy a cold drink, taking a moment of quiet from the city below.
THE KITCHEN & SALON
Portella’s kitchen is open from breakfast until late afternoon, serving seasonal Mediterranean dishes made with the finest local ingredients. Our Café is a relaxed space for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, complemented by a thoughtfully curated wine list.
OUR LOCATION
Located just 15 minutes from the airport, Portella sits at one of the former entrances to Palma’s walled city, on Calle de la Portella—one of the old town’s most emblematic streets, lined with historic mansions. Just steps from the Cathedral, the city walls and the main shopping areas, and only a five-minute walk from the sea, the house retains the charm and tranquillity of a historic neighbourhood. An ideal base from which to explore both the city and the wider island.
